Got the attention span of a 4 year old…

…but still want to create something that looks like you listened to every word the teacher said (and weren’t just staring at his abs)?

Pouring paints looks complicated… but it just works once you start.

We see it all the time, guests saying

“I have no idea what happened… I just poured some paint, spun my tray around and somehow this looks amazing.”__

What is pouring paints?

It’s the art of pouring, swirling, spreading and blowing paint into something you might actually be proud of.

You’ll use acrylic paints to create mesmerising, hypnotising art pieces. The kind you’ll want to display and proudly say “yeah… I made that.”__

And even better? You made it with your favourite people, celebrating something that actually matters.

Never done anything like this before?

Perfect.

Most groups haven’t.

Within 5 minutes everyone’s into it, laughing, experimenting and forgetting they were ever worried about “being bad at art.”

👉 You’ll be shown exactly what to do, or just have fun with it and it still somehow works.

Is it a good idea for a hens party?

Umm… yes.

You create something beautiful, something chaotic, or something you’ll laugh about later.

Either way:

  • it’s fun
  • it’s hands-on
  • everyone gets involved

And the hen will be so impressed with how much effort it looks like you put in organising it.

Pouring paints is definitely one of those ideas that just works.

Group of women in blue LuckyLadds aprons seated around a table while a topless waiter and drag queen host present a finished pouring paint artwork during a backyard hens party activity.

What actually happens?

Here’s how it usually goes:

  • Quick intro + setup (nothing serious, just enough to get going)
  • Learn a few simple techniques and how to get different finished looks
  • Want that acid cell effect? A smooth, melted flow? A spin or swipe? We show you how
  • Cards get handed around with examples, so you can just pick your favourite style and recreate it
  • Start pouring, swirling, blowing (this is where it gets fun)
  • Games, drinks and laughs while things dry
  • Final reveal… judging… prizes… a bit of chaos

You’ll be making two pieces, so you can:

  • go all in on one style
  • or try two completely different looks

And if you’re not sure what you’re doing at any point, that’s what we’re there for. We’ll jump in, guide you, and help you get the result you’re going for. No pressure, no strict rules, it just builds into a really good time (with a few surprisingly good paintings at the end).

You can follow along… or just go with it

You can follow your host step-by-step and create something carefully planned…

or…

just pour, swirl, blow and hope for the best.

Both approaches somehow work.

👉 Even the “I’m just winging it” ones usually turn out better than expected.

The ultimate “no rules” art form

The biggest secret?

Imperfection is kind of the goal.

You’ll learn things like:

  • Dirty Pour
  • Dutch Pour (blow technique)
  • Swipe
  • String Pull
  • Bottle Bottom Pour
  • Balloon Smash
  • Strainer Pour
  • Open Cup Pour

Even if you all use the same colours, no one ends up with the same piece.

And yes… it actually looks good

This is the part people don’t expect.

These aren’t “stick it on the fridge” kind of paintings.

👉 You’ll be surprised how good they turn out, even if it felt like you were just guessing the whole time.

What do we actually make?

You’ll create:

  • one large piece
  • one smaller one

Keep them as a set, or give one to the guest of honour so she can make a collage or keep them as memories from the day. It usually ends up being her favourite thing from the whole weekend.

Who’s hosting the workshop?

You’ll have:

👉 a professional art teacher

👉 plus your choice of host

Both are trained, experienced and know how to run the room and help you get the look you’re going for.

Hot, fun, and somehow still teaching you things while everyone’s distracted.

  • Runs the workshop
  • Helps with techniques
  • Keeps drinks topped up
  • Throws in games during drying breaks

Drag queen host

Big energy, big personality.

  • Performances throughout
  • Comedy, banter, interaction
  • Keeps everyone engaged from start to finish

This is definitely not your average art class.

Show them off

Once everyone’s finished…

Everything gets revealed.

  • Who’s is everyone’s favourite
  • Who went full chaos
  • Who somehow pulled it together at the last second

People get competitive.

Prizes, games & chaos

There’s always:

  • a perfectionist
  • someone committing to chaos
  • someone who steals it at the last minute

Everyone gets involved, and of course there are prizes handed out by your host for their favs, and their not-so favs. The prizes are awarded from our soap, candle and jewellery making classes.

We bring everything to you

You don’t need to organise anything complicated.

We bring:

  • aprons for everyone
  • all paints
  • canvases
  • trays (to catch all the run-off)
  • table covers
  • all tools and materials
  • your art teacher + host

Got a road leading to your place? We’ll get there.

Is this going to make a mess?

Not really.

Everything is set up so the paint runs into trays, tables are covered, and everyone’s in aprons.

👉 It looks messy, but it’s actually very controlled.

With that said, don’t set it up on your best rug.

Perfect for any group

Hens party, birthday, corporate event, or just because someone said

“let’s do something different.”__

  • something easy
  • something fun
  • something hands-on
  • something actually different

this is it.

Pouring paints or Paint & Sip?

Both are great, just depends on your group.

Pouring paints

  • more relaxed
  • more experimental
  • go at your own pace
  • embrace the chaos

Abstract pouring paint artwork featuring deep blue, gold and dark tones with a textured fluid finish, showcasing a more moody and premium style result.

Paint & Sip:

  • more structured
  • step-by-step
  • more technique-focused

A large hens party group posing outdoors in a lush garden setting, surrounded by tropical greenery. Around 18–20 women are standing and kneeling in rows, all smiling and holding up bright, colourful canvas paintings of cocktails and watermelon slices against a yellow and blue background. The group is dressed in party outfits in shades of pink, red, and white, with some wearing sashes, indicating a celebration. At the front of the group, two shirtless, muscular topless waiters are lying on the ground posing playfully, flexing and smiling toward the camera. Behind the group, a branded LuckyLadds backdrop is visible, and additional paintings are displayed on easels. The overall scene is vibrant, celebratory, and social, capturing a fun paint and sip hens party moment with completed artwork and group energy.

You’re not just booking an activity

You’re getting:

  • a fully hosted experience
  • entertainment
  • materials
  • something you actually take home

…and a lot of moments you’ll talk about afterwards.

Got a question about our hens party ideas and activities?

Our hens party ideas and activiities are fun! And we bet you have heaps of questions. Here are the most common questions hens organisers have asked us. Your question not answered here? Reach out to us!

What actually is a pouring paints party?

It’s a super satisfying paint activity where you pour, swirl and mix colours across canvases to create wild patterns and designs. Very artistic in theory… very chaotic once the group gets involved.

Do we need painting experience?

Not at all. Pour painting is beginner-friendly and honestly half the fun is seeing how unpredictable the designs turn out.

What if nobody in our group is creative?

Perfect. The activity does most of the hard work for you, which is why people get hooked on it so quickly.

Is pouring paint relaxing or chaotic?

It starts very calming and aesthetic… then slowly turns into everyone yelling colour advice at each other across the table.

Do people actually get competitive with it?

Way more than expected. Someone always suddenly becomes deeply protective over their paint technique.

What if I mess mine up?

Honestly, people usually end up loving the “messy” ones the most. Pour painting is all about unpredictable patterns and happy accidents.

What happens while the paintings dry?

That’s usually when the host keeps the energy moving with games, banter, prizes, shots and crowd interaction.

Does everyone’s artwork turn out different?

Completely. Even using the same colours, everyone’s canvas somehow ends up with its own personality.

Why do pouring paint parties work so well for hens parties?

Because everyone stays involved the whole time. People naturally move around, compare designs, laugh at disasters and build energy together without it feeling forced.

Is pouring paint more about art or more about the experience?

Honestly, the experience. The laughs, reactions and chaos are usually what people remember most afterwards.
