Today, that’s often no longer the case.

Many brides are getting married in their mid to late thirties rather than their mid twenties. Their friendship groups have expanded to include work colleagues, gym friends, neighbours, university friends, cousins, sisters-in-law and friends from different stages of life.

It’s increasingly common for guests to arrive only knowing one or two other people.

My Favourite Hens Party Games

Over the years I’ve hosted hundreds of hens parties and there are a few games I keep coming back to because they consistently get the biggest laughs.

The best hens party games aren’t always the most elaborate.

They’re the ones that get people interacting.

They’re the ones that break the ice.

And they’re the ones guests are still talking about months later.

The Band-Aid Game

This is easily my all-time favourite hens party game.

The bride is given five Band-Aids to find on the topless waiter.

Before the game begins, the other guests secretly place the Band-Aids on the waiter. Once they’re hidden, the bride is blindfolded and the countdown begins.

She typically gets either 60 or 90 seconds to find all five Band-Aids while the rest of the group shouts directions:

👉 “A little higher!”

👈 “More to the left!”

👇 “You’re close!”

👆 “Warmer! Warmer!”

The combination of bad directions, competitive hens and a blindfolded bride trying to beat the clock usually has everyone crying with laughter.

If the bride finds all five Band-Aids before time runs out, she wins a prize.

The Revenge Round: Majority Wins

Once the bride has had her turn, she gets to choose two guests for a revenge round.

This is where things become even funnier.

An odd number of Band-Aids are placed on the waiter and both guests are blindfolded. To make things harder, they can only use their non-dominant hand.

The goal is simple.

Find more Band-Aids than your opponent.

The twist is that both players are searching at exactly the same time.

What starts as a straightforward challenge quickly turns into complete chaos as the contestants bump into each other, accidentally block one another and race to find the hidden Band-Aids before their rival does.

The guests watching usually spend more time laughing than giving useful directions.

Since there’s an odd number of Band-Aids, there is always a winner.

The winner receives a prize.

The loser?

You guessed it.

Shots time.

The combination of competition, prizes and penalties always gets the group invested, and by the end of the game everyone is cheering like they’re watching the grand final.

Dirty Charades

If I had to pick a second favourite game, it would have to be Dirty Charades.

This one never fails.

I team up with the bride-to-be and together we act out words and phrases from my naughty charades list while the rest of the group tries to guess what we’re attempting to perform.

Some of the clues seem easy at first.

Then the acting begins.

And that’s usually where everything falls apart.

What starts as a confident performance quickly turns into wild hand gestures, terrible acting and increasingly desperate attempts to communicate the clue.

The harder we try, the funnier it gets.

Guests start shouting random guesses, the bride starts laughing halfway through the clue, and before long the entire room is crying with laughter.

What I love most about Dirty Charades is that everyone gets involved.

You don’t need any special skills.

You don’t need to know everyone in the room.

You just need to be willing to laugh at yourself.

Like the Band-Aid Game, it’s another fantastic icebreaker that gets guests interacting, talking and creating memories together.

Creating A Fun Atmosphere

One of the most important jobs of a topless waiter is helping maintain the atmosphere of the party.

Every event has natural quiet periods.

People arrive at different times.

Conversations can stall.

Guests can become distracted.

A good waiter keeps the energy moving by engaging guests, checking everyone is having a good time and making sure nobody feels left out.

They’re often the person encouraging group photos, organising a toast, suggesting a game or helping the group move smoothly from one activity to the next.

The goal isn’t to become the centre of attention.

The goal is to help create an environment where everyone else has a great time.

Helping Clean Up Afterwards

The job doesn’t end when the photos are finished.

A professional waiter will often spend the final part of their booking helping tidy the entertaining areas.

Many hosts say this is one of the most valuable parts of the service.
